The degree you hold must include a teaching component that equips you with the necessary skills for effective classroom instruction. This typically includes coursework in pedagogy (teaching theory and methods), psychological development (understanding students' mental and emotional growth), teaching methods (effective classroom strategies), and ideally a teaching internship or practical experience in a classroom setting.
Applicants must have at least two (2) years of classroom teaching experience since receiving their undergraduate degree. This ensures that candidates have hands-on experience and a proven ability to manage a classroom, create lesson plans, and adapt teaching methods to meet students’ needs. Experience in both primary and secondary education is valued.
A valid driver’s license/ Valid Form of Identification is required. A drivers license is recommended as many teaching positions may involve commuting or travel to different schools or educational sites, and possessing a valid driver’s license ensures that the candidate can meet these logistical needs.
Applicants must submit an official certificate of good conduct from their local police department. This certificate is required to confirm that the individual has no serious criminal history that could affect their ability to work in a school or interact with students. This requirement helps ensure the safety and trust of students and families.
Applicants must be in generally good health. This includes physical and mental health standards necessary for handling the demands of teaching, such as maintaining energy levels, managing classroom activities, and supporting students' diverse needs. A health certificate may be requested to confirm that the candidate is fit for the responsibilities of the role.
